Scientists Created an Averaged Rembrandt Painting

To do this, the experts analyzed more than 300 works by the famous artist.

A team of experts from Microsoft, Delft University of Technology, and Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis presented the results of their work on the project called The Next Rembrandt — a portrait, created with the help of machine learning technology and 3D-printing that reproduces the style of the famous artist in the smallest detail, Open Culture writes.

During the experiment the authors studied several hundred paintings by Rembrandt to understand what his typical hero looks like: for this they collected data about their sex, age, clothes, and other characteristics.

After the algorithms generated the final image, a 3D printer printed it in a way that most accurately reproduces the texture and surface pattern of the paint.
