The Military Publish a Video of Micro-Drone Swarm Demonstration

The US Department of Defense published a video of an October demonstration of micro-drones that are launched from planes.

In October 2016, three Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighters launched a swarm of 103 drones with a wingspan of 30 cm. The swarm reached the intended target, lined up in a required formation, showed adaptiveness to a spontaneous situation and ability to restore a formation. All drones were piloted not separately, but through one computer. It did not follow a pre-prepared program, but adapted the behavior of the swarm during the demonstration.

Drones of the Perdix project are partially 3D-printed. The swarm can be launched from planes at the speed of up to Mach 0.6 and at the temperature as low as -10°C. The US Department of Defense plans to use the swarm for surveillance and bypassing air defense systems that are tuned for larger objects.
