Bird in Flight Prize ‘20 Finalist: Cut Me A Smile

“Cut Me A Smile” is a collection of small, poetic, self-contained arrangements that appeal to the viewer’s imagination through complexity and abstraction.

I create portraits using the Wet Plate Collodion Technique, an old photographic process. To enhance the narrative, I combine these photos with lyrics, graphics, or other media.

The lyrics for the images are written by the artist Ella Moe. She developed the format of the three-sentence stories for this series.

The interaction between the various media creates new relationships and dimensions which connect individually with the imagination of the audience.
