Call for entries for the contest for innovative photography Bird in Flight Prize ’19 is open

Bird in Flight announces call for entries for the second international award for the innovative approach photography Bird in Flight Prize. Its goal is to support authors who think outside the box of traditional artistic standards and seek new ways for telling a story.

Photographers all over the world are welcomed to participate. We do not limit them in their choices of subjects and creativity methods and we do not impose time constraints for projects. To apply, you should submit a photo series (from 5 to 12 images) and add media attachments if need be. The application fee is 15 euros, deadline is 12 August.

This year, photo works will be judged by a photographer, a member of Magnum Photos Antoine d’Agata (Paris), a member of the Unseen advisory committee Emilia van Lynden (Amsterdam), YET Magazine editor-in-chief Salvatore Vitale (Zurich), artist Ola Lanko (Amsterdam), photographers Dmitry Kostyukov (Paris) and Vlad Sokhin (Chiang Mai).

The ten best projects will be published by Bird in Flight and displayed at the exhibition which will take place at the Set art space in Kyiv in October. The main winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on 11 October and will get a €2 000 prize.

In the special nomination of the Panasonic Readers’ Choice Award, organized in partnership with Panasonic, a winner will be chosen by readers. 30 photo series selected by the editors of Bird in Flight will qualify for the award. The best project will be chosen by open voting through the website of the competition. The winner will receive camera a Panasonic Lumix GX9.

Another fifteen applicants will receive an opportunity to get in-depth reviews of their work by the jury at the portfolio review that will take place in Kyiv in October. Submission for the portfolio review selection costs an extra 5 euros.

Bird in Flight Prize was launched in 2018. Last year’s winner was Valentine Bo with “Your next step would be to do the Transmission” project. Projects of the photographers from the Netherlands, Armenia, Poland, Greece, Ukraine, Russia and the USA were in the Bird in Flight Prize ‘18 shortlist that was determined among 375 applications from 49 countries.
