Astrophotographer Makes London’s Stars Visible

British photographer and timelapse cinematographer Nicholas Buer published a video which shows how the night sky would look from city windows if there was no light pollution.

The filmmaker worked on the video for over a year. It was made in two parts. First, Buer photographed London during the day and developed the images look like they were taken at night. Then, he captured pictures of the Milky Way in remote places in the South of England, where the sky is clear and stars are visible. Finally, he combined the two parts into one video.

“I first got the idea for the film when I read an article about a blackout in LA in 1994 where people called 911 reporting these strange clouds floating in the sky, those clouds where in fact the Milky Way. It made me think about how the lights from cities have made many of us lose our connection to the night sky,” said Buer.

Buer hopes to show his project in other metropolises and offers cooperation with people and organizations wishing to support him.
