FBI Advises Users to Cover Their Webcams
The head of the agency explained how to prevent unauthorized access.
FBI director James Comey advised users to tape webcameras on their laptops and PCs for safety, FastCompany writes.
Speaking at a conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Comey said that many government institutions in the US already use special covers for the cameras that help prevent possible surveillance.
“There’s some sensible things you should be doing, and that’s one of them,” he says. “You do that so that people who don’t have authority don’t look at you. I think that’s a good thing.”
It was reported earlier that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg also uses a cover on his webcam: in late June, a photograph that shows that his microphone and camera are taped became viral.
