Most Expensive Photo In The World Sells For $6.5 million

Peter Lik’s “Phantom” was bought by an unknown collector.

In Los Angeles an anonymous bidder paid $10 million for three photos from the landscape photographer Peter Lik, says prnewswire.com. For two other works (“Illusion” and “Eternal Moods”) an unknown fan of the Australian photographer paid $2.4 and $1.1 million respectively.

Previously, the most expensive work of Lik was an image “One,” bought for $1 million. Now Lik holds four of the top 20 spots for the most expensive photographs.

“The purpose of all my photos is to capture the power of nature and convey it in a way that inspires someone to feel passionate and connected to the image,” writes the photographer.

Second place on the list of most expensive photos is “Rhein II” by Andreas Gursky, sold for $4,338,500; third place is “Untitled #96” by Cindy Sherman $3,890,500; fourth is “Dead Troops Talk” by Andreas Gursky $3,666,500; and the is fifth “99 Cent II Diptychon.”
