Instagram Blocked in China

Instagram has been blocked in China as have posts on Weibo, China's version of Twitter, pertaining to "Occupy Central" in Hong Kong.

Popular photography site Instagram has been blocked in China.

According to the Reuters, the service was blocked due to images of the “Occupy Central” protests in Hong Kong. Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, has also blocked posts utilizing hashtags referring to the event. Users at the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong widely circulated photos and videos of the gathering; including images of police firing tear gas at the demonstrators.

Campaign “Occupy Central” was launched in Hong Kong on September 27th when protesters blocked central streets and transportation systems. Free elections are the main demand of the protesters.
