About a hundred people dived into a pool with cold water and pieces of ice on January 8, set up near the Teppozu Inari Shinto Shrine in Tokyo. The ritual is traditionally held in the middle of winter. The participants demonstrate their willpower and ask Inari, the spirit of fertility, to grant them health for the year.
