Blogger Uses GIFs to Explain the Special Effects in Silent Movies

SilentMovieGifs visualized how the creators of movies in the 1920s and 1930s achieved the required effects.

The author of SilentMovieGifs published a selection of animations which show how the special effects in silent movies were created. Among the movies included in the selection are Safety Last!, Modern Times, Ella Cinders, Little Lord Fauntleroy, and The Black Pirate.

Each of the scenes is explained with the help of two GIFs: the first one shows the scene in the final version of the film, the second one — how each of the visual effects were created.
