Teams compete in Dragon Boat race during the Duanwu Festival. The festival is celebrated annually on the fifth day of a fifth lunar month, that's why it's also called the Double Fifth Festival. In addition to boat racing, on this day people also eat rice wrapped in bamboo leaves and drink wine with a poisonous mineral. Duanwu has the status of a national cultural heritage item and is on the list of the official holidays in China.
