On the eve of Saint Anthony's Day (celebrated by Catholics on January 17th) in Spain they hold a fire festival — Las Luminarias. Saint Anthony is a patron saint of animals, and it is considered that if you ride a horse through a bonfire, it will protect them for the year to come. This tradition dates back 500 years.
