The first official hour record in Ukraine — 41,176 m — was set by Volodymyr Riabtsev on the cycle track in Lviv. The amateur athlete turned 49 that day. He has been doing cycle races and triathlon since 2005, and started participating in the competitions regularly in 2012 after he retired.

The world record in hour race is one of the oldest and most prestigious in cycling. The first record was set in 1876 and it was 26.5 km. The current record was set by Bradley Wiggins, three times Olympics champion. In summer this year he cycled 54,526 km on Lee Valley VeloPark track in London.
