September Photo Contests
At the beginning of each month Bird in Flight updates you about photo contests for both professional photographers and photography lovers.
Deadline: September 7, 2016.
No entry fee.
Award: $2,000, $500 and $250 for three winners, $250 for the People’s Choice Award winner.
The contest organized by the World Bank is dedicated to the problems of disadvantaged population from all over the world. Particular interest will be paid to projects covering topics of women’s economic empowerment, small businesses, and innovations in digital finance. An individual applicant can submit a maximum of 20 images.
Deadline: September 9, 2016.
Entry fee: $43
Award: £2,000 for the overall winner, participation in the festival, gifts from partners.
A photography festival-related contest accepts submissions (up to 10 images) dedicated to this year’s topic – “Habitat.” The judges panel features Foam’s Curator Kim Knoppers, co-founder of Photoville Sam Barzilay, and Erik Kessels, Director at KesselsKramer Publishing.
Deadline: September 28, 2016.
Entry fee: for professionals — $25 per image, $30 per series (two to five images), for amateurs — $20 and $25 respectively.
Award: $2,500 for the grand prize winner, $500 for each of the six category winners among professionals, $1,300 for the winner among amateur categories.
Open photography contest for professional and amateur photographers. Works are being accepted in 11 categories, among which – Advertising, Architecture, Nature and Editorial Photography.

Award: €29,000 for the grand-prize winner, €1,700 for each of the six finalists.
The competition is aimed at photographers and artists whose works subject relates to Hong Kong and coincides with this year’s subject – “Mobility.” In order to participate one has to submit ten captioned images, a cover letter, and a short bio.

Entry fee: £8–15 depending on a category, free of charge for participants under 18.
Award: £4,000 for the grand-prize winner, Fujifilm photo equipment for the category winners.
Yearly travel photography contest. Main prize – the “Travel Photographer of the Year” title and £4,000; contestants who send their submission into two of the following categories: “Mankind”, “Land, Sea, Sky,” or “Journeys & Adventures.” Entries are being accepted in ten categories, photographers under 18 are being evaluated separately.

Award: $20,000 and a trip to New York for the awarding ceremony.
Photo contest commemorating a famous American photographer, the founder of environmental portraits genre, Arnold Newman. To participate one has to submit a cohesive project (portraits, up to 12 images), a CV and a letter of motivation. Winners will be announced by the end of November 2016.

Award: prizes worth £11,000 for ten winners, subscription to the Professional Photography magazine.
Student photography contest. The submission must consist of one photo and a short explanation of one’s choice (up to 20 words). Members of Calmert Students community (membership fee – £25) can submit two more images for free.

A series of photo contests dedicated to wild nature. Two main prizes – trips to African safari – will be given to the author of the best photo and one random participant. The premium community members (£9 per year) can submit up to six images, and the deadline for them is extended till December 31, 2016.

Award: €50,000 for the project implementation.
Yearly grant for photojournalists from The Carmignac Foundation. This year’s topic is “Slavery and the Trafficking of Women.” Participants must send their portfolio (10 images), CV, and 8 to 15 captioned photographs from a single series or news story, which can (but does not have to) be connected with the theme.
