Best of Landscape Photographer of the Year Contest

The Landscape Photographer of the Year contest was founded in 2007 by a famous British photographer, Charlie Waite. The first prize and £10,000 went to Cambrian-based photographer Mark Littlejohn.

He captured a transient stream that appeared after a heavy rain in Glencoe’s mountains on the South-West of Scotland. “Mark discovered and isolated a fleeting moment of beauty within a vast and slightly threatening arena. The composition compels us to visually explore the image and its delicacy and understatement are enormously satisfying,” commented Waite.

The Youth Class Award went to Sam Reilly (17), who made a black and white shot of her mother walking on Anglesey island.

Stephen Bright won a special Landscape Award from Network Rail for taking the picture from London Bridge.

The special You’re Invited Award went to German Sven Mueller for snapping the sunrise at Winnats Pass, and John Robinson got the Countryside is GREAT Award for his photograph from the North York Moors national park.

Following the results of the contest, the Landscape Photographer of the Year: Collection 8 book was published, winners’ photographs will be displayed at the London Waterloo station during nine weeks starting December 1, 2014.
