A Sikh from Canada Mistaken for a Terrorist Because of Photoshop
On Saturday, November 14, Veerender Jubbal from Canada discovered that a photoshopped version of his selfie from the bathroom is being shared in social networks as the photograph of one of the Paris terrorists, Mashable writes.
“People are editing, and photoshopping my selfies as if I am one of the people causing the issues/problems in Paris”, — Jubbal wrote on Twitter.
In the original photo taken back on August 4 Jubbal is taking a picture of himself in the mirror with his iPad. In the photoshopped version the tablet is replaced for Quran, and the man is dressed in an explosive vest.
As a result of the prank, not only Internet users, but also institutional media started sharing this photograph. On November 15, Jubbal’s photo was featured on the cover of the Italian newspaper La Razon and on the website of Sky TG24 TV channel.
Many users supported Jubbal, drawing attention to the responsibility media have for spreading unconfirmed information.
