Joni Mitchell Models for Front Cover of New York Magazine

After modeling in an ad for the Saint Laurent fashion house, 71-year old Joni Mitchell accepted an offer from New York Magazine to model for the magazine’s front cover. The images feature “one of the most important female recording artists of the rock era” (as she was called at the Grammy Award Ceremony in 2012) modeling spring collections of Issey Miyake, Lanvin and jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

The series was shot by Hedi Slimane. Mitchell commented on his work in an interview published in the same issue, “He did shoot me in very harsh light. But we haven’t had any complaints about it. Maybe it was even good for the culture. Who knows? A 71-year-old fashion model with overt wrinkles because of the bad light.”
