Photo of Vincent Van Gogh is Discovered

The photo features the artist with Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard.

American collectors discovered the first image of Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh at a mature age, writes L’Oeil de la Photographie. The photo was taken by Jules Antoine in approximately December 1887. It features Van Gogh with a group of friends that includes Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard.

The found photo is the first known image of Van Gogh after he became an artist. Previously, only two known portraits were known to exist, including one at age 13 and one at age 19.
