Photo of the Day: Girls After Plastic Surgery

American photographer Ji Yeo presented a project Beauty Recovery Room that documents Korean women who have undergone plastic surgery. Yeo started the project in 2008 when she consulted with a plastic surgeon about her dream of the perfectly shaped body. Later she decided to avoid the surgery.

“As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be someone else,” said Yeo. “During the consultation, I realized that all along, I was only thinking of plastic surgery as some kind of magic tool. From the media, and from my friends, not many people were talking about how plastic surgery was surgery.”

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, 20 percent of women in South Korea have some form of cosmetic work done. The series attract attention to the price women pay for their beauty.
