Sport Illustrated Releases Series about Soldiers Playing Football

American magazine, Sport Illustrated, published a documentary photo series,Vladimir Shuvayev, about Ukrainian soldiers playing football. The photos were made on February 17th in Svetlodar (Donetsk oblast).

“The morning after the ceasefire was announced, representatives from the mass media went to monitor what was happening near the border of the war conflict zone, said Shuvayev in an interview with Svoboda radio station. “We were driving on the highway and about 20 kilometers from Debaltsevo we met group of Ukrainian soldiers and armored vehicles. The military men were resting, eating and waiting for new orders and then decided to play with a ball they found right there in a hog wallow. It’s just turned out that their relaxed mood and found ball became the symbols of the ceasefire.”
