100,000 Digitized Antique Books Posted Online

Twenty institutions offered their collections for the Getty Research Portal.

To celebrate its fourth anniversary the online archive Getty Research Portal posted more than 100,000 digitized versions of antique books online, Open Culture writes.

Twenty institutions provided their collections for the search portal, including the Guggenheim Museum in NYC, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Herzog August Bibliothek.

“In assembling a virtual corpus of digitized texts on art, architecture, material culture, and related fields from numerous partners, the Portal aspires to offer a more expansive collection than any single library could provide,” Getty Research representative Annie Rana wrote on her blog.

The published collection includes, for instance, illustrations to The Raven by Edgar Poe made by French artist Édouard Manet in 1875.

For convenience, a search can be performed by the name of the author, by theme, by language, and by publication date.
