Antique Illustration Warns about the Dangers of Wireless Technology

The drawing was published in Punch in 1906.

Quartz found an antique illustration that warns about the impact of wireless technology on offline communication. The drawing shows a man and a woman who are immersed in reading text messages on their devices and was created in 1906.

“Development of wireless technology. Scene in Hyde Park. These two figures are not communicating with one another. The lady is receiving an amatory message and the gentleman some racing results.”

The illustration was published in Punch, a satirical magazine circulated in Britain between 1841 and 2002. The outlet has successfully predicted the future more than once: in 1879, it published an illustration that showed how people talk to each other at a distance with the help of video communication.
