Aurora Australis over the emperor penguin colony on Antarctic sea ice. Emperor penguin colonies usually hide in natural hiding places: behind rocks and large blocks of ice. They need to have access to open water nearby. The largest colonies have up to ten thousand members. Emperor penguins move on their bellies, working with their legs and wings.
