At the beginning of each month Bird In Flight updates you about photo contests for both professional photographers and photography lovers.
Deadline: October 11, 2016.
Award: scholarship as part of the Fulbright program; insurance and travel expenses covered.
No entry fee.
The Fulbright-National Geographic contest enables participants to spend a year traveling in three countries and work on illuminating one of three themes — “Our Human Story”, “Critical Species” and “New Frontiers.” Participants are encouraged to use digital storytelling instruments and their work will be published in the National Geographic magazine.
Deadline: October 30, 2016.
Award: Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM lens, polarization filter, Sigma USB dock station.
No entry fee.
Amateur Photographer magazine’s’ contest invites aspiring photographers and students studying photography. The contest runs all for the whole year, this month’s theme is “Blackout.” To participate one has to submit a single black and white image.
Deadline: October 31, 2016.
Award: Grand prix — $120,000, the prize fund for 22 finalists is $303,000.
No entry fee.
In the open contest organized by Sheik of the United Arab Emirates Hamdan Al Maktoum, the works are accepted in four categories — “Challenge” (this year’s theme), “General”, “Digital Manipulation” and “Portfolio.” Per each category only one image can be submitted, with the exception of “Portfolio” – this category accepts submissions that consist of five to ten photographs.
Deadline: October 31, 2016.
Award: personal exhibition, $3,000 and $1,000 for two winners.
Entry fee: free for the Silver Eye community members, $50–55 for others.
Contest organized by Silver Eye photography center. To participate, one needs to send a CV or biography, a photo project (up to ten images) and an artistic statement. The Chief Curator at the Center for Creative Photography Rebecca Senf will choose the winner.

Award: €2,000 for the first prize winner, €1,500 for the second prize and €1,000 for the third.

Fashion photography contest for individuals under 35. To participate, one needs to send his or her printed portfolio (10-12 images), application form and a CD with bio and digital version of the portfolio by physical mail to PICTO BASTILLE, 53 bis rue de la Roquette, 75011 PARIS, indicating the name of Sylvie Besnard.
Deadline: November 4, 2016.
Award: a 10-day trip for two to the Galápagos, $2,500, $750 and $500 for category winners.
Entry fee: $15 per entry.
National Geographic’s contest for nature photography. Submissions are accepted in four categories: “Animal Portraits”, “Landscape”, “Action” and “Environmental Issues.”
Deadline: November 13, 2016.
Award: eight prizes $2,500 each, participation in the exhibition.
Entry fee: $40 for ten images, $60 – for twenty.
Photography contest organized by the Atlanta Photography Group. There are no limitations regarding the genre or theme of the projects, producer and publisher Andy Adams will chose the winner. Works of eight best photographers will be exhibited at APG Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia in January 2017.
Deadline: November 20, 2016.
Award: three-week personal exhibition in TJ Boulting gallery in London, £5,000 for the production of the photographs, publication in British Journal of Photography.
Entry fee: £40 for one series, £60 – for two.
Photo contest from British Journal of Photography publication. Among the judges – Director at The Photographer’s Gallery Brett Rogers, Founding Director of MACK Books Michael Mack, photographer Nadav Kander and others.
