Iranian Paper Shut Down For Showing Solidarity With Charlie Hebdo

Iranian government suspended license from a newspaper that published a photo of George Clooney wearing an ‘I am Charlie’ badge.

Last weekend Iranian authorities shut down the newspaper Mardom-e-Emrooz and suspended its license after it published a photo on the cover of George Clooney with text stating “I am Charlie too,” says The Guardian. “The court in charge of cultural affairs and the media imposed the ban on the newspaper for publishing a headline and a picture which it deemed insulting,” the BBC quoted the words of Mardom-e Emrouz director Ahmad Sattari.

Last week the Hollywood Foreign Press honored George Clooney with the Cecil B. DeMille award for outstanding achievement in film and television entertainment. The actor, who was wearing ‘I am Charlie’ badge, expressed his appreciation to French citizens who participated in a unity march.
