Blog of The Week: Literally Dead Skelllie

Pictures for an autumn walk in a park, selfies with friends in a bar — Skellie’s Instagram would be quite an ordinary blog if it were not for the fact that Skellie is a skeleton.

The Instagram account, that now has over 223,000 subscribers, belongs to the 30 year old Dana Herlihey, a SMM manager from Toronto. It all started six months ago when her colleagues brought a plastic skeleton to the office. “Someone taped a Starbucks cup to the skeleton’s hand and I took a photo for my personal Instagram,” Dana recalls in an interview with BuzzFeed Life. What followed was predictable: likes, comments, new skeleton portraits and creation of the Skellie blog.

Herlihey gets her inspiration from friends’ and colleagues’ photographs as well as popular culture trends. Her bony model has an intense agenda: she goes to the gym, takes a selfie in the bathtub, watches “Friends,” now she is in Santa’s lap, the next moment she is hung-over. Skellie has become so popular she is an additional income source for Herlihey: she now sells T-shirts, mugs, postcards and iPhone cases with the images of her character.
