Sotheby’s October Photo Auction Totaled in $3.3 Mln

About 200 photographs from the 20th century were put on sale.

October photography auction organized by Sotheby’s totaled in about $3.3 mln. You can read about it on the company’s website.

About two hundred famous photographs from 20th century were put on sale, among their authors are Ansel Adams, Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston and Tina Modotti.

The infamous work by Robert Mapplethorpe, Man in Polyester Suit, became the most expensive photograph during this auction, sold for $478,000. The last time this photograph was auctioned 23 years ago its price was only $9,900.

“At that time in 1980 the photograph was really avantgarde, and it is still relevant today”, — Christopher Mahoney, the Head of Photographs Department, said in his TASS interview.
