Bob Basset Created a DIY Mask. Here’s Your Tutorial.

Artist Bob Basset based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, makes exclusive leather masks for eccentric fashionistas, musicians, collectors, and fetishists. In the midst of the pandemic Bird in Flight asked him to design a mask that everyone could wear.

WHO recommends wearing a protective mask only if you are coughing or assisting a person with suspected 2019-nCoV infection. However, in Kyiv, Ukraine, the city administration prohibited its citizens from entering shops and drugstores without a mask (there is also logic in this: the virus doesn’t reveal itself immediately — even five days after having been infected the person might not know about it).

For those of you who avoid a medical mask for aesthetics, we recommend wearing one designed by Bob Basset above. To make it, you would need an A4 sheet, a thread or two stationery rubber bands, and scissors.

Attention! WHO reminds that the mask needs to be used correctly: before you wear it, you should wash or disinfect your hands; it should cover your nose and mouth leaving no gaps; and be replaced when damp. To take off the mask, take it by the rubber bands — you shouldn’t be touching the front part of it. Immediately dispose of the used mask, and wash your hands with soap after.
