Instagram of the Day: Syrian Artist Shows the World Leaders as Refugees
By drawing Donald Trump, Kim Jong-un, or Vladimir Putin as refugees, Abdalla Omari aims to attract public attention to the problems of displaced persons.
Abdalla Omari became known after his works from The Vulnerability Series, in which he made the world leaders look like people who had to leave their native country. Omari himself had to leave Syria after war broke out, so this is a relatable topic for him.
Politicians such as Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Bashar Assad, Kim Jong-un, Boris Johnson, Theresa May, Nicolas Sarkozy, Francois Hollande, David Cameron, Barack Obama, and Angela Merkel appear in his pictures as refugees.
The website of the gallery in Dubai which now hosts the exhibition of the artist, quotes him: "I wanted to take away their power not to serve me and my pain but to give those leaders back their humanity and the audience an insight into what the power of vulnerability can achieve."
