20 Years of Spare Rib, Feminist Magazine, is Available Online

Last week, British Library published a digital archive of 239 editions of Spare Rib, a magazine that influenced the new wave of the feminist movement in the Britain at the end of 20th century. Spare Rib was founded by two London journalists and feminists Marsha Rowe and Rosie Boycott in 1972 and was published until 1993. The magazine was intent on destroying stereotypes about the role of women in society, describing common problems, examining feminist issues and fighting for women’s freedom including the legalization of abortion, the rights of the sex-worker and young mothers.
