Antique Photographs of People from Different Countries Combined with Modern Images of New York

Flora Borsi colored photographs from early in the previous century and put their heroes in modern images.

Hungarian photographer Flora Borsi published a series of photo collages, The Forgotten Dream, where she combined antique photographs of people from different countries with modern photos of New York. She says that she was inspired to do this project by last year’s trip to Ellis Island, where most of the immigrants who came to the United States used to enter the country through.

“Broadly speaking, I knew what happened in Ellis Island and later I’d been thinking about the likeness of current immigration reforms in the United States,” the author says. “I did some research and it’s really sad what happened to many Immigrants. Many of them died on Ellis Island while waiting and hoping for an opportunity for a new life. I created this project as a reminder and to commemorate the 3,500 people who died there.”

Borsi published a similar series earlier, where she combined old and new photographs of Detroit to show the changes that happened to the city in the past decades.
