Time for Mistakes:
Youth in Slava Savchenko’s Series
Born in St. Petersburg. Was fond of photography since childhood, took street photography. For his graduation work chose his circle of friends as a theme, and has been working on a series about youth since then. Studies at Fotografika school.
— Youth is the time when you are overflowing with everything and see the world very acutely. You are rushing ahead, but your eyes are closed, and you’re trying to grab onto something on the way. You are thrown from one side to another. Unbridled joy easily changes for helplessness and fear. You are careless. You can easily trust any nonsense, you easily become obsessed, but you also doubt everything. You are not yet used to playing roles, and if you do it, you do it in a cute, awkward, and clumsy way. You drink, and you are not hungover the next day. You don’t sleep, you don’t eat, but you are full of energy. You are not burdened with anything, but feel the weight of everything. Because somewhere deep inside you know that you have time. You have the incredible privilege of making mistakes.
You often become aware of your youth after it has passed. People often speak about youth in the past tense, reminisce about it. It is the same as with adventures, people become aware of them only after they have ended. That’s why youth is a reminder of something lost, something fleeting.
