Hygiene During a Pandemic: As Seen by Photographers

While everyone around is learning how to wash hands correctly, Bird in Flight asked Ukrainian photographers and artists to do it beautifully. And correctly, if possible, too.

When you rinse your hands with water (especially running water) you can get rid of visible dirt particles. However, an invisible layer of fat that also houses pathogens is impossible to wash off. It needs to dissolve in water in order for you to be able to ‘unstick’ it from your hands and wash it off — and this is where it starts to be complicated.

In general, polar substances (for instance, water that consists of small charged particles of H+ and OH–) better dissolve polar substances, and non-polar substances (for instance, fats — long uncharged hydrocarbon chains) — other non-polar substances.

The soap, however, doesn’t contain disinfecting substances, and when they are added, their effectiveness is questionable.
