Winners of Travel Photographer of the Year 2016

Joel Santos, the winner of the main prize of the contest, won $5,000.

Organizers of the international contest Travel Photographer of the Year announced the winners of 2016: The Guardian reports that the winner of the main prize is photographer Joel Santos from Portugal whose portfolio the jury thought was the best of all submissions. The jury noted that Santos’ works were characterized by the variety of topics, wide range of technical devices and creative approach. The photographer will be awarded with $5,000.

Darpan Basak from India became the best young photographer of the year, and several dozen more photographers received prizes in different theme categories or a special mention from the jury. Among them, Michele Palazzo from Italy who captured the record snowfall in New York City early this year, Chinese photographer Ruiyuan Chen who took a series of portraits of people from Sichuan province, and Marsel van Oosten, the last year’s winner, who captured a crab farm in China.
