Student Makes Camera Obscura From Lego Brick

To get an image you just need: one Lego brick, a piece of wire, black tape and photo paper.

Ryan Howerter, a student at Colorado State University, found inspiration during photography сlass when his teacher talked about Francesco Caponni who made a camera out of a pine nut and the pinhole cameras Adrian Hanft made from Legos.

After hollowing out the brick with the help of wire, Howerter placed a piece of photo paper inside the block, exposed it for 10 seconds and then processed it to create a miniature photo of a tree near the university’s campus.

Howerter states that his device can work with film too; however he has not found a convenient method to process such small negatives yet. To make the cameras he recommends using black bricks to minimize reflected light.
