EyeEm Photo App Chooses the Best Photographs of the Year with the Help of AI
EyeEm, a popular photo app, posted an annual selection of the best photographs that the users took in the past 12 months. Unlike in previous years, when the editors chose the images, in 2016 this task was entrusted to artificial intelligence, Vision, which can evaluate the aesthetic qualities of images, PetaPixel writes.
Several million photographs published on EyeEm by authors from all over the world were uploaded to the program. The AI analyzed them and chose the 25 best images. In addition, Vision AI can automatically identify objects in the photographs and generate captions for them.
“Each year, millions of new photos get uploaded to EyeEm. We try to see the majority of them, but our photo editors are only human and can’t possibly catch all great pictures,” the company says. “[Vision AI] will pick out even those shots we would otherwise overlook.”
