Photographer Captures Abstract Artwork from Melted Metal
Swiss photographer Fabian Oefner created a series of abstract works with melted bismuth.
Bismuth is a silvery metal that when melted changes color because of contact with oxygen. Oefner became interested with it in October last year and purchased 90 kilograms. He place a little over than a kilogram in a container and heated it till it melted (this metal melts at about 271 degrees Celsius), scraped off the top layer and spread it on the even surface.
When melted bismuth cooled down, it contacted with air of different temperature and changes color. Oefner could not influence the color because it depended only on the temperature in the room, Wired writes.
Photographer took about 2,000 photographs in two weeks. The final series includes seven of them.
