Artnet Rated the Most Expensive Contemporary Artworks

The most frequently mentioned artists on the list are Jeff Koons and Gerhard Richter.

On Tuesday, October 27, Artnet published the rating of the most expensive artworks of contemporary artists and the list of most collectible authors.

Balloon Dog (Orange) by Jeff Koons is on top of the first list. It was sold in 2013 for a record $58.4 mln. Second and third come the works Domplatz, Mailand and Abstraktes Bild by a German artist Gerhard Richter, sold for $37 and $46 respectively. The list also features works by Jasper Johns, Robert Ryman, Zeng Fanzhi and others. The authors of the list note than the only female artist whose works made the list of top 100 most expensive contemporary art works is Yayoi Kusama from Japan.

The second list presents the most collectible authors. The list is also topped by Gerhard Richter and Jeff Koons, and Christopher Wool ranks third.
