Camera That Fell Into the Grand Canyon from Stratosphere Discovered After Two Years

GoPro camera captured the Grand Canyon from stratosphere.

In 2013 a group of friends in the US attached a GoPro camera and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smartphone to the weather balloon and launched it into the sky. When the balloon reached the height of 30 km, it burst, and everything fell on the ground. They were never able to retrieve the devices, MacRadar writes.

They supposed that the phone would text them its GPS location, but the text message never came. The authors of the project managed to retrieve the devices only after two years.

“In a twist of ironic fate, a woman who works at AT&T was on a hike one day and spotted our phone in the barren desert. She brought it to an AT&T store, and they identified my friend’s SIM card. We got the footage and data a few weeks later!” – Bryan Chan, one of the authors of the project, says.
