Evgeniy Maloletka Wins Pictures of the Year International Competition
The jury of Pictures of the Year International Competition announced the best photos in the General News category. The project of Ukrainian photographer, Evgeniy Maloletka, “Passenger” was selected as Photo of the Year. The image features the body of a passenger who died in the Malaysia Air accident on July 17, 2014.
Evgeniy told Bird in Flight how he captured the photo, “On that day I woke up about 5 a.m. to make a photo of sun rise over the plane’s wrecks. I called a taxi and we went to the crash site in Hrabove. Under the front glass, we put a sign “TV” to keep us safe because we drove through the forest area and fields. It was weird to go there, but we were lucky, the whole way from Tores we did not meet anybody.
Bodies were still not collected, even though they were lying there for two days. They were spread all over the huge territory. Some of them were lying in a wheat field, others fell through the roof of the civilians or were smashed by the plane seats. The epic scenery was full of horror. It was accompanied by sounds of artillery.”
Bird in Flight published a story by Evgeniy Maloletka about Malanka’s celebration in Chernovitskoi oblast.
