Fox News Embeds Video of ISIS Execution

Islamic extremists are spreading a link to the video on the TV Channel’s website through Twitter.

After major media decided not to upload a video of an execution of a Jordan pilot, an American TV channel became the only media outlet to upload a 22-minute video depicting the capture of members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) burning a man alive while locked in a cage.

“After careful consideration, we decided that giving readers of the option to see for themselves the barbarity of ISIS outweighed legitimate concerns about the graphic nature of the video. Online users can choose to view or not view this disturbing content,” said a representative of the TV Channel.

According to The Guardian, terrorist associated with ISIS have begun sharing links to the Fox News site on their Twitter accounts. One user congratulated Islamic State with ‘victories’ in battle, tweeting, “Whoever is looking for the al-Furqan version [of the video], here it is and it cannot be deleted because it is on an American network.”

Nick Nelson, a senior associate in homeland security and terrorism at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said that posting the video empowers ISIS, “They’re a terror organization. They seek to strike terror in the hearts and minds of people globally, and by perpetuating these videos and putting them out there into the internet, it certainly expands the audience and potential effects. These groups need a platform, and this gives them a platform.”
