Calbuco Volcano’s Eruption on Instagram

Witnesses post photos of the 20km column of ash.

The Chilian volcano Calbuco that has been inactive for the last 40 years belched a plume of ash and smoke for approximately 15 kilometers. Witnesses uploaded photos of the sight onto Instagram.

According to Reuters, the government of Chile began an evacuation of the radius of 20 kilometers from the volcano. More than 4,000 people had to leave their homes.

Calbuco is located in the Llanquihue National Reserve, 900 kilometers from Santiago, the capital city of Chile. It is included on the list of the three most dangerous volcanoes of the country. The last eruption was observed in August 1972.
