Kickstarter is the Most Popular Art Platform on Facebook

New art trading companies are more popular on social media than auction houses with hundreds of years of history.

Last week Skate’s, a company that studies the world’s art market, made a rating list of Facebook platforms connected to the art business, writes ArtNews.

According to Skate’s data, Kickstarter, a crowdfunding platform, and Canvasondemand.com, a service for printing on canvas, are the most popular among Facebook users with 1.14 mln and 984 K followers respectably. At the same time, the auction house Christie’s, the flagship of the traditional art market, has only 127,000 followers.

The researchers also found out that in four out of five countries with the highest number of users interested in art (namely, Brazil, UK, Italy, USA and France), the private gallery Gagosian is as popular as the auction houses Sotheby’s and Christie’s.
