Museum Visitors Think IKEA Painting is a Masterpiece
Dutch journalists designed an experiment to determine how well people understand contemporary art.
Journalists from Life Hunters bought a ten dollar IKEA painting, placed it with the paintings at the Museum of Modern Art in Arnhem, and said it was painted by Swiss artist IKE Andrews. Then they asked visitors for their impressions and recorded their responses on camera.
Visitors found the painting interesting, nostalgic and shocking. They also mentioned that the artist expressed the chaos of his internal world. One of the respondents said that the painting was worth €2,5 millions.
