Norway Will Change Design Of The Krone
Officials from the country’s Central Bank have decided to change the tradition of picturing famous Norwegians on banknotes, and asked artists and designers to create themes united around the sea. For each banknote the theme was slightly different: 50-krone: the sea which unites us, 100-krone: the sea which helps us to communicate with the world, 200-krone: the sea which gives us food, 500-krone: the sea which gives us prosperity, and 1,000-krone: the sea which takes us to the future.
Seventy proposals were submitted. Recently, it was announced that designs by two studios The Metric System and Snøhetta were selected to be used for the banknotes. Snøhetta’s design of the reverse side of the banknotes features a pixellated coastline. Size of the pixels reflects the wind speed from breeze on a 50-kroner note to storm on a 1,000-krone note.
