Painting by Picasso Sells for Record $179 Million
An unknown buyer bought “Women of Algiers (Version O)” at Christie’s.

The painting “Women of Algiers (Version O)” by Pablo Picasso was sold at Christie’s in New York City for a record $179,365,000, reported TIME. Several buyers used the phone to trade, and the last bid was $160 million plus Christie’s commission. The name of the buyer remains anonymous.
The most expensive sale of a painting remains “When Will You Marry” by Paul Gauguin. Swiss art collector, Rudolf Staechelin sold it in February 2015 for $300 million. The name of the buyer is unknown.
