Pictures off the soldier’s camera turned out to be a hoax

Last week, a military search team presented to the public pictures that were supposedly printed off the camera of a soldier who had been killed 70 years ago

As it turned out, the photos that came out last week, allegedly off the camera found by the military researchers at the location of the Battle of the Bulge, are actually being kept at the National archives of the US.

This was confirmed by a relative of Louis Archambeau, the American soldier who had been killed during World War II and who supposedly captured the shots. In his post on Reddit the family member denied the fact that the images circling the net all last week had been taken by Archambeau whose camera was found in early June in the mountains of Luxembourg by Mark Anderson and Jean Muller.

According to him, researchers shouldn’t take the blame for the misunderstanding: Mark Anderson did find the camera at the geographical location of the Battle of the Bulge, however he wasn’t present when the images were processed at the lab and he didn’t see the film. He took the phototechnicians’ word for it and announced that he found exclusive historical shots from the camera that remained hidden at the bottom of a fox den for 70 years.

According to PetaPixel, some of the photos were published back in 2005 in a book about the Battle of the Bulge.

Where the camera and the film are now and whether the film was indeed processed is still unknown. The soldier’s relatives initiated their own search of his war photos – Louis Archambeau did like photography and took a lot of pictures during the war.
