Research: More Likes for Photos with Filters

Filtered photos get 45% more comments than untouched images.

Analysts from Yahoo! Labs published a report about how filters for photos impact web popularity. They analyzed more than 7.6 million photos. The results of the research show that filtered photos are 21% more likely to be viewed and 45% more likely to receive comments. Filters that increase warmth and contrast boost engagement the most, cold filters create the opposite effect.

Yahoo! Labs specialists also identified the differences between professional photographers retouching process and the “visual effects” process of amateurs. Professionals try to make an image as realistic as possible, while amateur photographers use filters to significantly transform their photos with bolder effects.
