US Forest Service Permitting Photography in Federal Wildlands

Rates for Commercial Shooting Up To $800 A Day.

According to The Washington Post, the U.S. Forest Service is finalizing plans to introduce legislation to charge day-rates or require permits for photographers shooting on federal wild lands.

News media and private individuals will not be affected unless the individual uses a prop. Individuals or groups shooting with props will be charged per day. Large groups shooting films will be charged $80 a day, and small groups of three will be charged $10 a day.

Liz Close, the Forest Service’s acting wilderness director, says “The restrictions have been in place on a temporary basis for four years and now it is a time to make it legal.”
