Winners of the World Press Photo Multimedia Contest are Named
The jury of the World Press Photo Multimedia Contest announced the names of seven filmmakers who created the best documentary videos of 2015.
In the category Short Feature, TIME journalist Raul Moakley won First Prize for a video of Eric Garner’s slaying by New York policemen. Correspondent of The New York Times, Ben Solomon, took second prize for his video about Ebola epidemics in Liberia. Third prize was awarded to the Italian photographer, Carlos Spottorno, for his documentary about the rescue of immigrants from Pakistan and Syria, who tried to reach Lampedusa illegally.
In the category Long Feature first prize was awarded to Long Night, a video by Tim Matsui featuring the stories of seven people connected to the American sex trade. Charles Ommanney took the second prize with The Fence, a video about people who cross the border between Mexico and the United States. Third place was awarded to Shiho Fukada for Net Café Refugees a video about people who use Internet cafés as living quarters.
The film {The And}, made by The Skin Deep, was the only winner in the Category Interactive Documentary. The video depicts the records of various conversations in order to explore the dynamics of modern relationships.
